Piano Landscapes: West to East — an audio CD from Vera Rathje

"Piano Landscapes: West to East is the CD I recorded in celebration of the wonderful life I've experienced in America for many years now.

I've always been excited by the music of Roy Harris. Listen carefully on the CD and you can hear in the piano compositions based on American folk ballads a kind of spaciousness that seems so "American" — a grandeur that can only come from living in the spacious American landscapes of the Southwest that he loved so much.
The composition on the CD by David Burge offers a different way of expressing that which we associate with being an American. As an American soldier in the Korean War, Burge enjoyed the company of many Korean people which he memorialized in Go-Hyang, a series of brief musical segments found on this CD. Here we see a composer portraying the Korean experience through American eyes.

I hope you discover the same joy when listening to the compositions on Piano Landscapes: West Meets East as I had in performing them for you."

Reflections, Music For Piano 4 Hands — a new video DVD

Unlike a “piano duo,” where two players play separate pianos, “piano, four hands” is a specific form of duet composed for a single piano having two players.
With this live performance by Ronald Morebello and Vera Rathje, we experience – first hand – the richness of sound and observe the complexity of hand positioning that makes piano, four hands an art unto itself. These accomplished musicians have been performing piano, four hands concerts throughout Southern California. This is the first to be captured on digital video.
This concert was performed in the PianoSD.com Concert Hall in San Diego, California on, perhaps, the finest concert grand piano in the world, the Bechstein Grand Piano Model D 228.
